Responsible tourism: our commitment

We promote responsible travel driven by mindful choices, aiming to minimise environmental impact.

In an increasingly connected world, tourism has the power to enrich lives and build connections, but it also brings with it a number of significant challenges.

One of the main challenges in adopting responsible tourism practices is the lack of awareness among travellers, tour operators, and local communities. Many are unaware of the fundamental principles that can guide us toward more sustainable ways of travelling.

Aware of this issue, we have made awareness-raising one of the cornerstones of our commitment. We firmly believe that real change can only happen through education and the sharing of useful information. That’s why we are dedicated to actively promoting a culture of respect for the marine environment and the people who live in the places we visit.

Promoting a low-impact style of tourism means encouraging people to make conscious choices and take intentional actions. This can translate into small daily actions, such as reducing plastic consumption while travelling, respecting local wildlife, and embracing experiences of slow tourism.

Sailsquare is more than just a travel platform; it is a community of travellers who share similar values and visions. Together, we can build a future where tourism is not just a leisure activity, but an opportunity to learn and contribute.

What We Do, in Practice

Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

We ask all skippers operating the boats used for our experiences to adhere to a set of behavioural rules, detailed in the Skipper Code of Conduct, aimed not only at ensuring a serene and safe environment for our travellers but also at minimising the ecological footprint of their experiences.
The Code of Conduct outlines the best practices that skippers must follow to ensure that the footprint left during the journey is as low-impact as possible. These practices focus on sustainability and respect for the marine environment, as well as creating a positive experience for all on board.

Raising Awareness and Sharing Best Practices

Raising Awareness and Sharing Best Practices

We actively promote a series of suggestions for the travellers in our community, encouraging them to leave the places they visit just as (or even better than) they found them.
In addition to practical tips, we share insights that inspire travellers to reflect on their approach to tourism itself, encouraging them to think critically about their choices and adopt more mindful and environmentally respectful behaviours.

Citizen Science Cruises with WWF

Citizen Science Cruises with WWF

Since 2021, we have partnered with WWF Travel and WWF Italy to organise sailing cruises focused on Whale Watching experiences, aimed at research and monitoring of the cetaceans that inhabit our seas, with the goal of marine wildlife conservation.
These cruises are inspired by the shared values of WWF Travel, focused on the protection and conservation of our natural marine heritage, as well as the active involvement of travellers in real scientific research projects.

Benefit Corporation, what does it means?

Sailsquare was born from a passion, the passion for sailing, but also from the conviction that a sailing experience is the most natural and least invasive way to approach the sea and discover its treasures, and that everyone should try this experience, sooner or later.

In 2022, we chose to become a Benefit Corporation, officially formalising a path that actually began the moment we were founded.

Benefit Corporation is a traditional company with modified obligations that commit management and shareholders to higher standards of purpose, responsibility, and transparency.

Benefit Corporations voluntarily pursue, in the course of their business activities, not only the goal of profit but also a positive impact on society and the biosphere, through the pursuit of one or more public benefits. Public benefit refers to achieving one or more positive effects (including reducing negative impacts) on people, communities, territories, the environment, cultural and social assets and activities, organisations, and other stakeholders.

Each year, with the approval of the financial statement, we publish a report on the activities carried out to achieve these public benefit objectives, known as the Impact Report
