This experience, in a nutshell
The archipelago of the Pontine Islands emerges from the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea with six magnificent volcanic islands off the southern coast of Lazio.
Ponza, Ventotene, Santo Stefano, Gavi, Zanone and Palmarola, six names for six paradisiacal islands where you can escape from everyday life, enjoy the beauty of wild and unspoiled nature, practice water sports and immerse yourself in a crystal clear sea.
The two main islands of the archipelago in terms of size and inhabitants are those of Ponza and Ventotene, the others are small, almost uninhabited, used as nature reserves as in the case of Zannone and can be visited with boat excursions.
Ponza is the eldest of the Pontine sisters in terms of history and size and is considered one of the most beautiful islands in Italy. Halfway between land and sea, there are also spectacular sea caves with amazing colors that can be reached by sea to immerse yourself in the play of light of the turquoise waters, as well as the sandy beaches crowded with bathers such as the famous Frontone beach, the Bay of Cala Feola and the more remote inlet of the Parata. Its worldly town made up of colourful houses, narrow alleys, fishermen's houses, fashionable boutiques and charming bars carved into the rocks also contributes to the identity of this beautiful island.
Located south-east of Ponza, three hours by boat, but less than half the size of the island, the island of Ventotene is the other inhabited island of the Pontine archipelago. It has a more spartan and discreet atmosphere than the livelier Ponza which makes it an ideal destination for those looking for a quiet stay, in complete relaxation and in contact with nature. the island allows you to wander through its pedestrian streets and numerous historical sites of interest such as the luxurious Villa Giulia in Punta Eolo: ancient imperial residence with its rooms, gardens, cisterns and mosaics or in the Roman port carved into the volcanic rock.
