Guide to the most beautiful places, bays and beaches in Ibiza

Ibiza, the island of a thousand faces. From the best-known beach to the most secret, to be discovered during a sailing or catamaran vacation

Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, Ibiza (also known as "Isla Blanca") is a magical island that attracts tourists from all over the world for its rich and varied landscapes and nightlife. Whether you're looking for a lively place to party nonstop or if, on the other hand, you're looking for relaxation and tranquility in secluded coves, you'll be spoiled for choice in Ibiza. You just need to know where to go. A sailing vacation will give you a chance to admire both faces of the island; in one week you will be able to circumnavigate the island, exploring it far and wide. Respect for nature, to which the residents are particularly attached, has given the island the chance to retain all its purity, with virgin landscapes and crystal clear waters.

The best time of year

If you are young and want to enjoy mostly the nightlife and beach parties, then the best time is in the middle months of the year, from June to September. If, on the other hand, you want to experience the island quietly, away from the hustle and bustle and savor its authenticity, you can opt for April-May and October when the number of tourists is definitely less, but the temperatures are still pleasant.

Exploring Ibiza: Journey through Hippie Markets, Wild Nature and Endless Night

A trip back in time with hippy markets

A trip back in time with hippy markets

Among the many different kinds of markets on the island, the hippy markets definitely stand out, where time seems to have stopped in the 1960s-70s. Two are the main ones: Punta Arabí in Es Canar and Las Dalias in Sant Carles. The first, opened in 1973 is definitely the oldest on the island and has about 500 stalls. You will find original clothing, handmade costume jewelry, natural home made cosmetics, musical instruments and objects from all over the world. Inside it houses a play area entirely dedicated to children. The second one, located in the northern part of the island, on the other hand, is the best known, with a more tourist and commercial feel. Here too you can find handicrafts from all over the world, clothes, musical instruments, hammocks and antiques. You can pamper yourself with a body massage or have your palm read. In both you will have the opportunity to listen to live music and taste typical Ibizan dishes.

Full sail to the northern coast: blue sea, wilderness and relaxation

The most hidden and wild side of Ibiza is at hand, or rather within boat reach, and that is the northern part of the island. Here lies the most authentic, ancient and tradition-bound Ibiza, with Catalan-style villages, discrete coastlines, green expanses of carob and olive groves and beaches washed by turquoise waters. There are numerous small coves, enclosed by rocks, such as Cala d'en Serra where the real surprise is underwater, rich seabeds where you can spot scorpionfish, colorful damsels and purple anemones. Cala Xarraca characterized by a dense pine forest and red cliffs, is a favorite of naturists. A mandatory stop in the roadstead at Cala d'Albarca, rugged and fascinating, where cliffs soar up to two hundred meters high.

Ibiza: the island that never sleeps

Ibiza: the island that never sleeps

If you are a group of friends or teens looking for wild fun and new friendships, a sailing vacation in Ibiza is just the thing for you. Whether it's single boat or flotilla, there's nothing better than resting on the deck of a sailboat after a long night of partying while making your way to little corners of paradise. On the island, the partying continues nonstop throughout the day: on the beaches during the day and in the discos at night, people dance to music played by the best international DJs. Undoubtedly the southern part of the island is the liveliest, especially the area of Eivissa port and Sant Antoni de Portmany where the most famous clubs are located. Among the nightlife beaches you can't miss: Playa de Las Salinas, inside the national park; Cala d'Hort, facing the magical Es Vedra; Cala Comte, for a sunset aperitif; and Playa d'en Bossa, Eivissa's most famous.

Practical Info

Territory

Ibiza is part of the Balearic archipelago and along with Formentera is one of the two Pitiuse Islands. It occupies an area of 572 square kilometers, largely covered by pine forests with generally high and rugged coastlines. Agriculture, fishing and, above all, tourism are the main resources.

Population centers

The capital city is Eivissa; other important towns are Sant Antoni de Portmany and Santa Eulària, where most of the inhabitants are distributed.

How to get there

The island of Ibiza is easily reached by direct flights from most european cities. The airport is located in the southern part of the island where many low-cost airlines land during peak season. The island can also be reached by ship from the main Spanish ports.

Getting around

The island is not very large and you can get from one point to another in a few hours. The roads are not the best, and the public bus service also does not excel in terms of quantity of routes and frequency of runs. The best way to get around Ibiza by land is to rent a car or motorcycle.

Ports and marinas

The main ports are Marina Ibiza and Marina Botafoch, both in Eivissa; Marina Santa Eulària and the San Antonio Yacht Club, in the towns of the same name.

Activities

Ibiza offers many activities a little bit for everyone. The more sporty will have the option of SUP excursions, kayaking and diving at the scuba center in the capital. In other, windier areas, surfing and windsurfing can be enjoyed at certain times. The island's hinterland is also a pleasant discovery, to be explored on a motorcycle, quad bike or mountain bike ride.

Sea and beaches

Ibiza's beaches are very varied, both of very fine white sand and of pebbles with rocky bottoms, all sharing crystal-clear waters. On the southern coast are the more youthful and fashionable beaches, such as Playa d'en Bossa and Playa de las Salinas of fine white sand.

While on the northern coast those wilder and more fascinating, such as Aguas Blancas and Cala d'Aubarca, characterized mostly by rocks and coarse sand.
